Grandmas Metal

What are some good songs by Sinatra?

I'm 16 years old and i usually listen to metal, rock, punk, or like jazz type stuff. pretty open to everything. i used to to listen to Sinatra a lot when I was little with my grandma. i've heard alot of his songs, i just don't know what they were called. so could you give me some sweet Sinatra tunes to start out with? thanks

You'll get a wide variety of answers to this since Sinatra's career stretched from the days of big band (he first was a singer with Tommy Dorsey and Harry James in the 30s) and continued until his death in the 90s. My PERSONAL opinion is that his arrangements were best in the Nelson Riddle/Capitol years but his VOICE was best in the later REPRISE RECORDS era, so I'll offer a mix of those mostly with 1 track I really love from his early "bobby soxer" years when all the teenage girls in the 30s were screaming over him.

My pick for the 15 most essential Sinatra tunes, in chronological order (1940-1980):

"I'll Never Smile Again"
"I've Got the World on a String"
"I Get a Kick Out of You"
"In the Wee Small Hours"
"You Make Me Feel So Young"
"Young at Heart"
"Love and Marriage"
"My Kind of Town"
"Here's to the Losers"
"It Was a Very Good Year"
"Strangers in the Night"
"Summer Wind"
"That's Life"
"My Way"
"Theme from 'New York, New York' "

Most likely, these will just spark a desire to find more Sinatra. He has that effect. :D
