Court Rooster
How do I make my rooster accept two baby ducks?
Today I got two baby ducks to join my three baby chicks and rooster. The chicks are about a month old and fell in love with the ducks and are so sweet to them. The rooster, however, first tried to court them and then just pecks at them when they get close. He pecks them hard, too, and seems to be afraid of them.
All of them are in my house right now because of the bad weather ( I keep them in a special animal-room). I want them all to get along before I put them outside back in their pen...
What can I do to help the baby ducks grow on the rooster? The rooster is very, very sweet. He doesn't attack like most roosters. I've raised him in my house since he was just hatched and I worry that he won't get along with the ducks ever...He was the same with the chicks at first, but after a day he didn't mind them anymore. What can I do?
I'm sorry to say that it's not going to be that easy if the rooster and chicks didn't grow up together, but you can try and get them used to each other slowly. You should try separating them with a small wire fence or wooden beam or something. This gets them used to each others' scents, noises, and sight. In time, they will be "good neighbors". After some time (it varies greatly from a few hours to a few months) they can be introduced closer.
