Cast Iron Dinner
What are some adult camp cooking ideas/recipes?
I'm going camping in a group of 5 or so this summer and looking for some new ideas for food, especially dinner and dessert.
I like the idea of socializing and leisurely cooking up something aromatic and mouth-watering after a day at the lake, so I'm not necessarily looking for the usual quick & easy stuff (like camper's stew or banana boats), although space and equipment limits from getting too complex. We are probably going to have a small charcoal barbeque and a campfire and cast iron skillet, maybe a pot or dutch oven. No stove.
Any suggestions?
All you need is a dutch oven w/ recessed lid and feet on it, a large nonstick skillet, and a bag of charcoal and charcoal chimney. This shoudl cover you for most cooking. Make foil packets out of heavy duy alum foil before you leave... layer in chicken breast, onions, bellpeppers, BBQ sauce, and green beans, S&P, a little butter.... or pork chop, onion, white and sweet potato slices, corn kernels, Heinz 57, S&P.... HB patty,shredded or diced potatoes, worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, onions, S&P, top w/ cheese when you cut it open...that sort of thing. And no dishes to clean up! You already know about banana boats. You can also bake whole apples (stuff center w/ cinnamon red hot candies and a dab of butter) or do a dump cake cobbler w/ canned pie filling and cake mix and butter. Don't forget smores.
