What is the best way to clean dark spots off of brass?
I have cleaned old brass candlesticks with Brasso. They are beautiful except for several small and a few large very dark spot. No amount of elbow grease seems to help. (I was in the Army. I have polished brass with sweat spots.)
Had an expensive copper table once that my ex husband spilt tomato & onion sauce on. I noticed when the sauce was wiped off the table it looked bright & shiney clean (like new) bad dark spots had vanished, so, I poured more sauce on and rubbed like crazy... table never looked so good. Don't know if this would work with brass. After I got it cleaned, I sprayed the table with laquer as dark marks always appeared on the table when hands touched it... I did this every couple of months and the table lasted for years in excellent condition.(Naturally the table was wiped down with clean water after the sauce was cleaned off and before the laquer was applied).
