Pouring brass into cast iron mould need help with mould release agent?
I have some cast iron ingot moulds that I want to use with melted brass. However, I don't want the brass sticking to the moulds when the brass is poured into the moulds. I have heard of using aerosol graphite(Graphite Plus Aerosol, 12 oz/can) but have not tried it yet. Anyone have any experience with this or can recommend a good mould release agent that I can use?
Provided that the molds are smooth, you can blacken
the inside surface with candle soot, which will serve
as a release agent.
Graphite spray should work, but be very sure that all
volatile aerosols are completely gone before you pour
hot brass on it, (waxes included). Heat the treated mold to do this.
Caution: IIRC 'Graphite plus contains waxes
and silicones which will vaporize below the temp.

Any 'flash` of vapor could be a hazard to you.
